I'd like to extend a warm welcome to all incoming fourth grade families! I am looking forward to working with you as a team member in your student's learning. I love to watch children as they learn, especially as they work hard to understand challenging material. Working as a team, I know we can prepare each and every student to grow and reach his or her full potential!
I received my B.S. from the University of Minnesota Twin Cities with a major in Foundations of Education: Elementary. I also have a M.S. in Curriculum and Instruction: Elementary Education from the University of Minnesota Twin Cities.
CLASSES I TEACH:
- We will be using the readers workshop format for reading. Students will be reading independently as well as in literature circle or small reading groups. The CQ series of books is mixed in with instruction to continue working on developing reading strategies. We also use Time for Kids magazine each week to reinforce non-fiction reading skills and keep up with current events.
- We will use the writers workshop format for writing instruction. Students write daily. Our "published" pieces this year will be narrative, opinion, and information writing.
- We will be using Words Their Way as our spelling curriculum. Students will receive a list of words at their level to practice patterns, blends, vowel sounds, prefixes and suffixes, and more. We will also be learning a variety of Greek and Latin root vocabulary words this year.
- Our social studies curriculum focuses on Wisconsin history, geography, and influential people and Native American tribes. We will use the weekly newspaper "Social Studies Weekly" to deepen our understanding of these concepts as well.
